Bread is a staple food across the globe, available in a huge range of sizes, shapes, flavours and finishes. It also has deep cultural and religious significance. Through the context of bread, learning around the threads of Consumer awareness and Food culture are further developed from Year 1. Future units expand pupils' experience, introducing more unfamiliar foods, and global tastes and cuisines.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know that we eat different food according to what we like and dislike.
  • Pupils can evaluate food based on its appearance, smell, texture and taste.
  • Pupils can talk about how we eat different food depending on the time of day, occasion and lifestyle.
  • Pupils can plan a dish or meal for a food preference and occasion.
  • Pupils will know that some people have a food allergy to some foods.
