Making a healthy wrap for lunch

Lesson details

Learning outcome

I can make a healthy wrap, based on the Eatwell Guide.

Key learning points

  1. A wrap is a flatbread, with origins from Mexico, and can contain a range of fillings.
  2. The food skills used to make a wrap safely and hygienically are grating, spreading, arranging and folding.
  3. The Eatwell Guide can be used to evaluate a recipe.

Keywords

  • Grating - to cut food into small pieces by rubbing it on a grater

  • Spreading - to cover food with another ingredient

  • Arranging - to place food to make it look attractive

  • Folding - to make the wrap into a pocket to keep the food inside

Common misconception

Pupils may think that a sandwich always uses sliced white bread.

Sandwiches can use a range of breads from around the world and are eaten often in many countries.

Teacher tip

Have ingredients ready in containers. Some ingredients can be partly prepared, e.g. sliced tomatoes, grated cheese. Allow a group of children to collect their ingredients one at a time.

Equipment

For ingredients and equipment see the recipe in additional materials.
