Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. There are four seasons: winter, spring, summer and autumn.
  2. The climate and conditions affect when and where food is grown.
  3. Eating foods that are in season in the UK and produced locally can have benefits for the planet.

Keywords

  • Seasons - the four parts of a year: winter, spring, summer and autumn

  • Seasonal - relating to a season in the year

  • Climate - weather conditions in an area

Common misconception

Seasons do not matter, as you can always buy lots of different fruit and vegetables in any season.

While you can buy different fruit and vegetables, they might have to be imported from other countries as they cannot grow in the UK in certain seasons. We should also try and eat more seasonal fruit and vegetables from the UK.
