Key learning points
- Traditional tales often have repeated elements, making them easier to remember and retell.
- The repeated element of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ is each pig building their house to have it blown down by the wolf.
- The pig building the house and the wolf blowing it down are two ideas that are related, so can be joined using ‘and’.
- Adjectives can be used to describe things and characters, such as the houses and the wolf.
- When using more than one adjective to describe a noun, they must be separated with a comma.
Keywords
Expanded noun phrase - two adjectives listed to describe a noun
Comma - a punctuation mark used to separate two adjectives or after a fronted adverbial
Joining word - a word that joins words or ideas
Common misconception
Pupils may be daunted by the quantity they are expected to write.
Spend time emphasising the repeated aspects to show pupils that once they have written one sentence, the following sentences are very similar.
