Common misconception
Pupils may find it difficult to draw out the most significant moments when summarising.
Model eliciting the key parts of Walter's life - using the contents page to support. Have these accessible during the lesson.
Teacher tip
Teachers can include the transcript of the epitaph (found on page 31) to read, and signpost additional reading (found in the final page of the text) to extend pupils' knowledge of Walter Tull.
