This unit uses and builds on previously taught vocabulary for describing settings and scenes through weather, including wind and hot words in the Year 4 unit 'Weather: wind and hot words'. Here, pupils learn new words to support the descriptive writing of the weather, specifically for cold, calm and stormy scene-setting. This unit prepares pupils for learning a wider range of vocabulary to describe settings and scenes in narrative writing, including cloudy, dark and rainy words, in the Year 4 unit 'Weather: cloudy, dark and rainy words'.
