Key learning points
- The 'e' at the end of the word makes no sound (SFE - Silent final e). The consonant before a SFe is pronounced: timide.
- 'Avoir' means to have: j'ai (I have), tu as (you have), il a (he has), elle a (she has). These are its singular forms.
- In English, adjectives come before the noun. In French, most adjectives go after the noun (postnominal adjectives).
- Adjectives must agree with the gender of the noun they describe. We often add an -e in the feminine form: vert - verte.
- Some adjectives, like rapide, end in an e in both the masculine and feminine forms: une voiture rapide.
