Key learning points
- [s] is pronounced as in 'maison'.
- A double 's' between vowels is always soft but a single 's' between vowels is always a hard 's' [s] and sounds like 'z'.
- Movement verbs such as 'entrer', 'tomber' and 'monter' use 'être' in the perfect tense before the past participle.
- Past participles used with être must agree in gender + number with the subject of the verb. Add 's' for plural subjects.
- How (often) adverbs usually go after the first verb but longer -ment adverbs usually go at the end or even the start.
