Mon voyage dangereux : extended writing and speaking

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can exploit a longer written text to improve my vocabulary and grammar knowledge, to develop my reading skills and to create my own extended text on a contemporary issue.

Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

      Key learning points

      1. Direct and indirect object pronouns precede both parts of the verb (auxiliary and past participle) in the perfect tense.
      2. Direct and indirect object pronouns can be usefully combined to create complex texts.
      3. It is important to plan both the ideas and language needed and to think about structure when writing a longer text.
      4. It is important to create a checklist both for range of language and for accuracy when creating a longer text.

      Keywords

      • Verb - word that communicates actions or states

      • Direct object pronoun - replaces the noun receiving the action of the verb, e.g., me, you, it, them

      • Indirect object pronoun - replaces the person, people or thing(s) that the verb action is done to, when the action is to me, for you, to them

      Common misconception

The noun 'un être', meaning 'a being', changes to 'une être' when referring to a girl or woman. 'Un être humain' changes to 'une être humaine' in the feminine.

The noun 'être' is masculine, even when referring to a girl or a woman. The phrase 'un être humain', 'a human being', refers to both genders.

      Teacher tip

When teaching the slide about the start of an account of a difficult journey, take time to talk through all the verb phrases. Explain why each is in the form it is in (tense, person agreement, etc.) and remind students that the theme requires phrasing to refer to the past.

      Equipment
