Key learning points

  1. To make adjectives feminine add -e, change -x to -se, -el to -elle, -en to -enne, -f to -ve, -er to -ère, or no change.
  2. To form plural adjectives we add -s, unless the adjective ends in -x or -s. -al and -eau change to -aux and -eaux.
  3. To make comparisons in French we use 'plus ... que', 'moins ... que' and 'aussi ... que' with adjectives and adverbs.

Keywords

  • Adjective - a word that gives information about a noun

  • Comparative - a form of adjective or adverb used to compare people, things or ideas

Common misconception

To make a comparative adjective in French, add the suffix -er to an adjective.

Most comparatives are formed using 'plus ... que' (more ... than), 'moins ... que' (less ... than), and 'aussi ... que' (as ... as). The adjective to compare goes in the middle and agrees with gender and number of the noun being compared.
