Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons
Key learning points
- Reflexive pronouns enable us to express an action done to oneself or two or more subjects acting upon one another.
- Infinitives of reflexive verbs are always preceded by se or s’. Choose the correct pronoun when conjugating the verb.
- The negative component 'ne' goes before the reflexive pronoun. 'Pas' goes after the verb.
- Extend answers by giving and justifying opinions and using a variety of adjectives, adverbs, pronouns and intensifiers.
Keywords
Reflexive pronoun - used to indicate doing something to yourself, words like 'myself' and 'yourself'
Common misconception
Reflexive pronouns are only used to talk about actions done to oneself.
Reflexive pronouns are also used with verbs to indicate a reciprocal (shared) action between two or more subjects. Verbs can only be reciprocal with plural subjects, i.e. 'nous', 'vous' and 'ils/elles'.
Teacher tip
Students might like to do some research about French-speaking musicians and groups before completing the extended writing task in LC2 in order to enrich their knowledge of francophone culture. Teachers may wish to shorten the required length of the task to suit their students.
Equipment
Mini whiteboards and pens, if available, would be useful.
