Why this why now
This unit explores a range of everyday contexts which allow pupils to deepen understanding of a range of grammar points met at KS3 and KS4. Reflexive and modal verbs feature particularly strongly in describing daily routine, household chores and preparing for exams. Daily routine is covered through the life of a Francophone band, so pupils also gain popular cultural knowledge and learn to talk about others as well as themselves. Pupils also expand their transactional vocabulary in practical everyday contexts such as shopping trips, preparing them both for role-play and real life scenarios.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils know the singular reflexive pronouns me, te and se.
- Pupils know that reflexive pronouns come before the verb.
- Pupils know the difference in use between the perfect and imperfect tenses.
- Pupils can use relative clauses with qui, que, quand and où.
- Pupils know how to use correct word order with verbal negation.
- Pupils know the modal verbs vouloir, pouvoir, savoir and devoir in the present tense.
- Pupils know the prepositions sans, pour and avant and that they can be followed by the infinitive.
