Key learning points
- Time markers and conjunctions, combined with different verb tenses, help a reader to follow a text more easily.
- Include a range of verbs in future and conditional when describing future plans and wishes.
- The conditional can be used to compare real and ideal situations.
Keywords
Conditional - a form of verb that expresses what would happen
Common misconception
The conditional can always be used on its own without a prior conditional being described.
Apart from the verbs 'aimer' and 'vouloir', always use the conditional form of verb with a 'si' + imperfect sentence. It is not logical to say in French 'I would buy a villa' without an accompanying condition e.g. if I had lots of money.
