Key learning points
- [on] and [om] are nasal sounds but become non-nasal before a vowel or when part of a double consonant: [onne] or [omme].
- ne ... rien, like ne ... pas and ne ... jamais, wraps around the auxiliary verb in perfect tense.
- ne ... personne is different to other negatives in the past tense. Personne comes after the past participle.
- Sports successful in francophone nations include skiing, football, tennis, swimming, judo and ice dancing.

Common misconception
The negative structure ne ... personne is formed the same way as ne ... pas and ne ... jamais in the perfect tense.
Ne ... personne is unusual in that the second component (personne) comes after the past participle in the perfect tense.
