Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

      Key learning points

      1. Listening and reading texts can be exploited to enrich our topic-specific vocabulary.
      2. Account for every word when translating from French, but remember there might be a different number of words in English
      3. In role-play keep answers short and focus on accurately conveying meaning to cover each bullet point.

      Keywords

      • Role-play - a task with a situation and prompts to ask and answer questions, simulating a conversation

      Common misconception

The same amount of words are used when translating between French and English.

Due to the nature of the languages, there may be differences in how some words or ideas are translated e.g. I need is 'j'ai besoin de' in French. More or fewer words might be necessary to complete an accurate translation.

      Teacher tip

There are two versions of task B2, C1 and C2. Option 2 tasks are foundation tier, however foundation students might also find Option 1 tasks useful. Option 1 tasks are included on the video.

      Equipment

Mini whiteboards and pens are useful, if available.
