Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can make a list of the people who work in my school and interview some of them to find out more about their job.
Key learning points
- There are lots of different jobs in a primary school and some are easily noticed but others are not obvious.
- Interviews are a good way of finding out information from people.
- Interviews need to be planned in advance, to ensure the right questions are asked.
- Interviews can be recorded to help us remember what the person being interviewed said.
Keywords
Job - A job is regular work which is usually paid.
Interview - An interview means talking to people to gather information.
Questions - A question is something we can ask to find out information.
Common misconception
Everyone who works in a school gets paid.
There are many volunteers who work in schools to help them run smoothly. These people don't get paid, they give up their time for free.
Teacher tip
Adapt the roles in the school section to fit your school. You can add more or remove some. You can insert names of staff that work at your school during the teacher model for tasks.

We use learning cycles to break down learning into key concepts or ideas linked to the learning outcome. Each learning cycle features explanations with checks for understanding and practice tasks with feedback. All of this is found in our slide decks, ready for you to download and edit. The practice tasks are also available as printable worksheets and some lessons have additional materials with extra material you might need for teaching the lesson.
The assessment exit quiz will test your pupils' understanding of the key learning points.
Our video is a tool for planning, showing how other teachers might teach the lesson, offering helpful tips, modelled explanations and inspiration for your own delivery in the classroom. Plus, you can set it as homework or revision for pupils and keep their learning on track by sharing an online pupil version of this lesson.
