Key learning points
- Plural nouns are formed in different ways, depending on factors such as gender and how the singular form ends.
- Ordinal numbers indicate position or order in a list or sequence, e.g., first, second, third; we use them for dates.
- Questions are formed by inverting subject and verb; a question word can be added to create an open question.
- ‘Sie’ with the correct verb form should be used when asking questions in formal situations.
Keywords
Noun - word for a person, place, or thing
Ordinal number - a number defining the position of something in a series, such as ‘first’, ‘second’, or ‘third’
Open question - question starting with a wh- word that has more information in the answer than yes/no
Common misconception
When addressing questions to someone, I can just use 'du'.
Questions often need to be asked using 'Sie', in situations where respect should be shown, such as when asking a teacher or an unknown adult.
