Key learning points

  1. 'Es gibt' means ‘there is’ and ‘there are’. It is a general statement that something exists.
  2. Use 'da ist' and 'da sind' to point out what there is in a specific place, at a specific moment in time.
  3. Determiners such as 'jed-', 'letzt-' and 'nächst-' change their endings according to gender and case.
  4. Use dative endings after the preposition 'bei', e.g., 'bei dem (beim) nächsten Mal'.

Common misconception
