Key learning points
- There are nine rules for forming plurals in German.
- Uncountable nouns do not have a plural form.
- Use the quantifiers 'viel' and 'wenig' for uncountable nouns, use 'viele' and 'wenige' for countable nouns.
- 'Viel' and 'wenig' do not change according to gender or case, but plural 'viele' and 'wenige' do.
- When reading aloud it is helpful to identify and correctly pronounce umlauts, which are common in plural nouns.

Common misconception
'Viel' and 'viele' and 'wenig' and 'wenige' are interchangeable.
Use 'viel' and 'wenig' with uncountable nouns (i.e., you cannot put a number in front of it) and use 'viele' and 'wenige' with countable nouns (i.e., you can put a number in front of it).
