Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Performing is sharing our best work with an audience to entertain them.
  2. We can convey stories and meanings of songs by the way we sing and perform them.
  3. Warming up effectively helps us to be ready to perform
  4. We can put our song in context by using a script
  5. Reflecting on our performance help us see how we are developing as musicians and performers.

Keywords

  • Performance - a work that is presented to an audience

  • Script - the written text containing the story of a play, musical or film

  • Round - a song structure where multiple groups sing the same melody but start at different times

Common misconception

Once we've performed, then we've finished and don't need to carry on reflecting on our work.

Watching a performance back, and/or reflecting on our performance is useful because it gives us an opportunity to realise and appreciate the various skills we've been learning, using and building on. We can also see what we'd do better next tiime.

This is an opportunity to bring the pupils' performance to life. Small groups could speak parts of the script together. This is also an opportunity to share the pupils' work with an audience. Filming the performance is useful, as watching it afterwards supports the pupils' reflection.
