Key learning points

  1. Move: hitting the ball with accuracy and power enables you to aim for space and away from fielders.
  2. Think: to score maximum points, you have to hit the ball away from the fielders.
  3. Feel: continuing to try and hit the ball with more power and into space, even when you make mistakes, shows courage.
  4. Connect: congratulating and encouraging others when they throw or strike the ball well demonstrates empathy.

Common misconception

Pupils focus solely on their arm movements and neglect the use of their legs and hips to create power.

Ensure pupils understand how that bending their knees and rotating their hips can create more power for bigger hits.

Using a slightly larger and/or softer balls when pupils are hitting off of the batting T, can support pupils with less developed hand-eye coordination. Use a variety of bats (tennis, rounders, cricket) to support striking skills.
