Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: combining or linking actions, space and dynamics requires balance, coordination and control.
  2. Move: mirroring our partner requires focus and control to communicate our connection and harmony.
  3. Think: replicating actions without using a bean bag requires the use of imagination.
  4. Feel: trying new movements and combining different ideas requires self-belief.
  5. Connect: taking turns involves fairness and patience.

Keywords

  • Space - where an action happens

  • Dynamics - how an action is performed

  • Relationships - who the action is performed with

Common misconception

Pupils think that when performing mirroring duets they should remain on the spot.

Mirroring duets typically remain in situ (and may need to for safety reasons e.g. in a small space), but they should be encouraged to lean towards or away from their partner, as well as move sideways to prevent the work from becoming purely gestural.
