Turning and directions: journey by bus or train
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can include turning and changes of direction into my actions.
Key learning points
- Move: turning requires balance and control.
- Move: combining turning and travelling requires coordination.
- Think: using imagination enables us to be creative and use abstract ideas.
- Feel: self-belief enables us to try a range of ideas and keep trying our hardest.
- Connect: performing as a duet together and contrasting our actions requires empathy.
Keywords
Turn - rotate or spin
Direction - where we face or travel
Contrast - the difference between two or more things
Common misconception
Contrast is the same as opposite.
Opposite is an example of contrast. For example, a contrast for travelling forwards is backwards. But contrast can also mean different. For example, travelling around a bend or turning on the spot are different so would also demonstrate contrast.
Teacher tip
Apply the instruction 'slowly' when asking pupils to demonstrate turning to avoid dizziness. Partial turns also support safe practice and can link to mathematical language.
