      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can move in a variety of ways when exercising and understand that exercise helps me to feel happier.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: taking part in different activities supports my body to exercise and helps my mind to feel happier.
      2. Think: exercise can help us build confidence and manage negative feelings such as sadness or frustration.
      3. Think: exercise can make us feel good about ourselves.
      4. Connect: collaborating with others helps us to enjoy exercise and shows gratitude.
      5. Feel: showing courage and trying our hardest will increase our confidence when exercising.

      Keywords

      • Mind - the part of a person that thinks, understands, remembers, directs and feels

      • Confidence - a feeling of being sure you can do something

      • Wellbeing - the state of being comfortable, healthy and happy

      Common misconception

Some pupils may think exercising and physical activity are only focused on winning and being the best.

Exercising alone or with others can provide opportunities to have fun and try new things. Getting better at something or feeling energised can feel just as good as winning a game.

      Teacher tip

This lesson offers opportunities for pupils to explore and express themselves through their favourite movements. It is important to be clear that pupils should stay on their feet during their chosen movements and should not rotate upside down i.e. somersaults and diving are not permitted.
