Common misconception
Artists just think of ideas, whatever artform they work in.
All artists, whether dancers, painters, actors or musicians, look to other artforms and the wider world for inspiration. Charlie Parker (musician) inspired Basquiat (painter) who later inspired Jay Z (musician).
Teacher tip
Check carefully if showing pupils Basquiat's work as some includes language inappropriate to the classroom.
