Keywords
Peer - people who are similar to you in age or experience
Evaluate - to look at something carefully, considering it’s quality and ways it could be improved
Performance - the execution or display of a series of actions
Common misconception
Some pupils might think that a quality performance should be long and include difficult skills.
If a short sequence that includes easier skills is performed with accurate timings, fluidity, control and extension, this is demonstrating high quality. Evaluation should consider how something is performed as well as what is performed.
Teacher tip
Additional materials are provided which list some success criteria for a high quality performance. Asking pupils to generate their own success criteria before seeing this is a useful way to assess their understanding. This might be a task for pupils who have changed quickly or a sorting activity.
