Combine and perform mime with meditative balances

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can combine mime with meditative balances to help me deal with negative emotions and I can use positive feelings to try and combat negative feelings.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: mime sequences combined with meditative balances require movements and stillness to portray different emotions.
      2. Move: to improve our mime and meditative balance sequences, the actions must flow.
      3. Think: it is helpful to be able to link the emotions expressed in our mimes to the relevant meditative balance.
      4. Feel: to manage our emotions throughout the day, we can use meditative balances to focus and calm our bodies and minds.
      5. Connect: we should strive to help others in the group who find meditative balances and relaxation techniques difficult.

      Keywords

      • Meditative - being very calm, quiet and focused

      • Mime - acting without words by using only gesture, expression and movement

      • Flow - refers to achieving a smooth and efficient sequence of tasks

      Common misconception

Pupils struggle to relate to some of the negative emotions explored in the lesson and therefore don't see the benefit of practising the mime and meditative balance sequences.

Explain to pupils that it is important to practise and understand the benefits so that we are prepared for future challenges in our lives.

      Teacher tip

Play calm music to create an environment conducive to relaxing. Challenge pupils to work in groups instead of pairs.
