      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can dribble the ball into space, keeping possession in order to create an attack.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: to keep possession and attack we must turn and dribble away from the opposition and into the space in front of us.
      2. Think: effective decisions during the game helps our team to create attacking chances.
      3. Feel: self-discipline enables us to stay focused and calm in the game, even if we aren't finding success.
      4. Connect: communicating as a team is essential in deciding when and where to dribble in order to create an attack.

      Keywords

      • Dribbling - moving the ball with your feet or hands while keeping control of it

      • Attack - to move toward the other team's goal to try to score points

      • Turn - changing direction whilst dribbling

      Common misconception

Pupils turn without checking if there was actually space to turn into first. Pupils also turn when there is no need to.

Remind pupils to check for the space before they turn. Explain that we turn when we need to change direction to move away from a defender.

      Teacher tip

Move pupils on through the planned activities when they are ready. Decrease the number of defenders if pupils are struggling to find success when dribbling.

1 ball per pupil (ball depends on the context), 30+ cones, bibs
