Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can demonstrate good batting and fielding skills in a game of racing rounders.
Key learning points
- Move: striking the ball so that we aim low and hard reduces the chances of fielders catching it.
- Move: accurate throwing, catching and retrieving skills are important to keep the batters score as low as possible.
- Think: trying new tactics in a game of racing rounders can help us improve our performance.
- Feel: recovering quickly after a poor performance, shows resilience and a desire to improve.
- Connect: striving to collaborate with our team to make sure everyone feels valued demonstrates excellent trust.
Keywords
Catching - to take hold of something that is thrown
Tactics - a carefully planned set of actions that are used by a team or an individual to achieve a certain goal
Scoring - winning points in a game situation
Common misconception
When fielding in games, pupils believe that retrieving the ball and running it back to the bases is the most effective and quickest way to field.
Encourage pupils to work as a team, by backing each other up and supporting each other. Ensure pupils understand that accurately throwing the ball to a teammate that is closer to the bases will be more effective and quicker than running with it.
Teacher tip
When putting pupils into teams, try to create fair teams with pupils of all abilities/expereinces. This allows for competitive games and a chance for pupils to scaffold each other's learning. Ensure pupils keep hold of their bat after hitting the ball and they do not throw it down before running.
