Key learning points

  1. Move: clear replication of test protocol is essential to ensure it is a reliable and valid result.
  2. Think: emotional and physical responses to testing should be more positive in relation to the start of the unit testing.
  3. Feel: evaluating progress in relation to your previous performance can improve self-esteem and motivation.
  4. Connect: recognising progress in others, no matter how small, can motivate them to continue with their programme.

Common misconception

Pupils may compare their progress to other pupils and feel disappointed if others have made a faster rate of progress.

Progress is personal and depends on many things - starting fitness, goals, technique and even how well rested you are on test day. Even small amounts of progress should be celebrated.
