Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: clear replication of test protocol is essential to ensure it is a reliable and valid result.
  2. Think: emotional and physical responses to testing should be more positive in relation to the start of the unit testing.
  3. Feel: evaluating progress in relation to your previous performance can improve self-esteem and motivation.
  4. Connect: recognising progress in others, no matter how small, can motivate them to continue with their programme.

Keywords

  • Benchmarks - a starting measurement used to track improvement over time

  • Progression - a sign of improvement in performance, fitness or technique

  • Evaluation - comparing current performance to past results to judge progress

Common misconception

Pupils may compare their progress to other pupils and feel disappointed if others have made a faster rate of progress.

Progress is personal and depends on many things - starting fitness, goals, technique and even how well rested you are on test day. Even small amounts of progress should be celebrated.
