Hip Hop: question and answer
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can use the choreographic relationship of question and answer effectively.
Key learning points
- Move: directing focus, formations and dynamics towards an opponent aids projection of the dance.
- Think: entrances and exits require concentration.
- Feel: pausing whilst others perform their work is an example of self-discipline.
- Connect: empathy includes acknowledging the successes of others.
Keywords
Question and answer - a choreographic relationship in which dancers alternate performing to each other
Formation - how dancers are arranged, e.g. line, circle, block
Embellishments - additional actions to add interest
Common misconception
Hip Hop culture focuses on 'disrespecting' your opponent and mocking them.
As in all competitive settings, the performers are trying to succeed and employ a variety of strategies to do so, but this also includes congratulating others on their successes and supporting those who are developing their skills.
Teacher tip
Emphasise personal style (or 'flava') throughout and encourage pupils to perform the actions in a way that feels comfortable to them.
Equipment
Suggested music.
