Key learning points
- Move: staying linked by holding hands or using a bib helps defenders close gaps and work together to stop the raider.
- Move: quickly instigating a strong grip around the raider’s waist can prevent them evading the defenders.
- Think: maintaining your position inside the court area, while holding the raider, ensures your tackle is valid / counts.
- Feel: creative thinking and experimenting with alternative ways to respond to a scenario support deeper understanding.
- Connect: support play is needed to capitalise on a counterattack to trap a raider in your half of the court.
Keywords
Counterattack - an attack made in response to one by the opposition (repeat)
Raider - the player who enters the opponent's half of the court to score points by tagging opponents
Baulk line - a line on each side of the court that the raider must cross to make their raid valid and be eligible to score points
Common misconception
Pupils think that tackling a raider individually is the only option.
In Kabaddi, Raiders have 30 seconds to make the raid and get back across the half way line. As a result, if the defense hold up the raider until their time runs out, it is an unsuccessful raid and the raider doesn't score.
