Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: a fast chase uses a low body position and quick directional changes around the turning pole.
  2. Move: tagging needs controlled movement with a light hand touch to stay safe and accurate.
  3. Think: choose the right moment and best teammate to pass the chase for a quicker tag of the runner.
  4. Feel: not giving up when you’re tired or get tagged shows determination and helps you grow as a player.
  5. Connect: treating others with honesty and compassion helps ensure an enjoyable game for all.

Keywords

  • Kho kho - a team game from India where players run and chase to tag opponents while using teamwork, speed and quick direction changes

  • Chaser - a player who starts seated and takes turns chasing/tagging runners

  • Turning pole - the pole at each end used by chasers to legally change direction

Common misconception

Pupils think you can constantly change directions when chasing.

Remind pupils that in Kho Kho, chasers cannot change direction freely. They must run around a turning pole to change direction. Turning mid-court is a foul.
