Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: the arm is recoiled in the direction the ball is travelling for one handed catches.
  2. Move: stepping forward with your opposite foot helps to direct your overhead pass with accuracy.
  3. Think: one handed catches are faster but come with increased risk of dropping the ball.
  4. Feel: bouncing back from mistakes and lost possession requires resilience.
  5. Connect: using good communication and eye contact with team mates enables greater success at keeping possession.

Keywords

  • Give-and-go - an attacking play that involved passing the ball (give) and running (go) to an open spot to receive the ball back

  • Overhed pass - a pass thrown from above the head to outwit a player marking the ball usually over a longer distance

  • Accuracy - a skill that reaches the intended target

Common misconception

Pupils think the only movement that is important is the movement with the ball.

Movement off the ball is just as important, it helps create space and supports the player in possession.
