Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: all players must be in their own half before the throw-off is taken.
  2. Move: to score more goals than our opponents we have to accurately time passes and movement to support the ball carrier.
  3. Think: passing is a faster way to advance up the court than dribbling.
  4. Feel: optimism is shown by maintaining a positive outlook, even when behind.
  5. Connect: leadership of self and others through positivity helps the collective performance.

Keywords

  • Coach - a person responsible for training, guiding and a supporting a team to improve performance

  • Throw-off - a throw from the centre line to start the game or restart after a goal

  • Captain - a team leader who motivates players on and off the pitch, communicates with the referee and guides play during the game

Common misconception

Only the player taking the throw-off needs to be in their own half.

All players must be in their own half before the throw-off is taken, not just the thrower.
