Key learning points
- Move: changing direction by pushing hard off the outside foot helps to get into space and become free from defenders.
- Think: using the instep provides control and kicking with the top of the foot provides power.
- Think: you can identify the best place to move into once you have made a pass to a teammate.
- Feel: dedication to move quickly after passing provides options and increases the likelihood of being passed back to.
- Connect: good movement off the ball is really important to ensure you are always providing support to your teammates.
Keywords
Space - an area of the pitch where there are no players or where there is room to move the ball or run into
Accuracy - the ability to pass the ball to a specific target with precision
Give and go - a short pass to a teammate and then receive a quick pass back into space
Common misconception
Pupils make a pass and stand still, waiting for the next ball. This is a common issue, especially in futsal, where quick transitions and movement are key.
After passing, always move to create an option. A great habit is to perform a give-and-go, where you pass the ball and immediately make a run to receive it back. This keeps the game fluid.
