Score and add a defender to increase complexity
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can shoot with accuracy and control.
Key learning points
- Move: a solid base is needed with the non striking foot next to the ball, to shoot with the instep or top of the foot.
- Move: keeping your head over the ball helps keep the ball down when shooting.
- Think: shooting with accuracy and control is more important than power due to smaller goals and spaces in futsal.
- Feel: experimenting with a variety of techniques rather than repeating the same skill you can do shows perseverance.
- Connect: pressure is increased by adding a goalkeeper and then a passive defender before full game scenarios.
Keywords
Shooting - attempting to score a goal by striking the ball towards the opponent's goal when in possession
Accuracy - the ability to direct the ball to a specific target
Pressure - intense attacking or defensive challenges that are faced in a competitive game of futsal
Common misconception
Pupils may often focus on power rather than accuracy when shooting. They may also make poor decisions with regards to shooting when under pressure such as facing a goalkeeper or a defender.
Focus on accuracy over power, working on aiming for specific targets. Pupils should practise shooting under pressure to help them make good decisions.
Teacher tip
It is important for pupils to have lots of opportunities to shoot in non pressurised and less pressurised situations before going into a competitive game. They should be encouraged to reflect on their decision making and work out solutions for themselves.
Equipment
a small ball with reduced bounce (size 3 ideally) per pupil, approx 50 cones of various colours, bibs, whistle
