Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: hitting the ball into the ground when batting prevents unnecessary outs but also reduces run rate.
  2. Think: balancing the risk of getting out, with failure to generate runs, requires careful thought.
  3. Feel: managing the stress and emotions of winning and losing whilst playing fair is a skill in itself.
  4. Connect: playing team sports provides a sense of togetherness and camaraderie but comes with highs and lows.

Keywords

  • Camaraderie - a friendly, trusting and supportive relationship between people

  • Sportspersonship - the practice of showing respect, fairness and graciousness in sport whether you win or lose

  • Risk - the chance something unwanted might happen

Common misconception

Pupils may believe that when they are not batting, they don't need to pay attention to what is happening on the field.

Being a good team member requires us to encourage our teammates and be aware of what is happening in the game, even when our turn to bat has not finished or even started yet.
