Why this why now

Pupils will already have explored the core skills of batting, bowling and fielding in an attempt to score or deny runs. The drive and pull shots will enable pupils to place the ball in different areas of the field before testing confidence, mental capacity and appetite for risk through small sided scoring and officiating games. Later in striking and fielding games pupils will play and officiate their own small sided team games of cricket and continue to develop their ability to analyse performances.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know that fielding teams must work together to limit the effectiveness of the batting team.
  • Pupils understand that although batting is an individual skill, it is part of a team performance and impacts others.
  • Pupils are able to perform different types of throws to suit the distance and situation.
  • Pupils show the ability to alter striking and fielding strategies in response to various factors and team dynamics.
