Astronomy: choreography
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can create and combine ideas to communicate a theme.
Key learning points
- Move: applying different dynamics accurately allows us to communicate different themes.
- Think: finding a variety of possible responses to a stimulus involves imagination.
- Feel: being prepared to change or adapt ideas requires self-belief.
- Connect: collaborating with others involves cooperation.
Keywords
Dynamics - the speed and force of an action
Radiating - spreading outwards
Contact work - any action that involves physical contact between the performers
Common misconception
Pupils don't like dancing.
Whilst no activity is attractive to everyone, most pupils enjoy dance when the tasks are open ended. This gives them the opportunity to input their own ideas and perform actions thay are comfortable with.
Teacher tip
Make the warm up high energy and 'game-like' by frequently changing between travelling, turning, jumping and shrinking in a random order. Pupils with limited prior experience of dance may benefit by being guided on how to travel, what type of jump to do and how shrinking might be 'touch the floor'.
