Meteorology: performance skills

Lesson details

Learning outcome

I can apply accurate placement to my performance.

Key learning points

  1. Move: accurate placement enables meaning to be projected effectively.
  2. Think: finding ways to represent non-human activity requires imagination.
  3. Feel: offering suggestions and opinions involves self-belief.
  4. Connect: cooperation is required when creating or performing choreography.

Keywords

  • Placement - the accurate positioning of the body

  • Projection - the effective communication of the dance idea

  • Expressive - conveying a thought, feeling or idea

Common misconception

Projection means that you have to look up.

Projection is effectively communicating a dance idea. This often involves looking outwards towards an audience but would not be appropriate if communicating a concept such a secrecy, nervousness or reluctance.

Teacher tip

Feedback to pupils can include describing their action, space, dynamics and/or relationships. You may wish to model an interpretation e.g. 'I think that looks like ... because ... '. You may also wish to reference their physical or expressive skills e.g. balance, control, focus or extension.
