Lesson details

Learning outcome

I can perform a 10 bounce routine with a variety of moves and offer feedback to others on their routines.

Key learning points

  1. Move: keeping your eyes on a fixed point during each skill will maintain balance and orientation.
  2. Move: engaging all muscles to create body tension and conveying enthusiasm and energy enhances the visual appeal.
  3. Think: smooth transitions are developed from creating/considering the most suitable move as you land the previous one.
  4. Feel: confidence to execute a routine comes from repeated skills practice and mental rehearsal.
  5. Connect: listening to feedback from peers helps boost motivation and increases awareness on how to improve performance.

Keywords

  • Tariff - term to describe the difficulty value assigned to an individual skill or move

  • Routine - a series of specific moves and tricks that you practice and perform in a particular order

  • Extrinsic feedback - external information provided by coaches, peers or devices about a performer's actions or results, helping them improve performance

Common misconception

Pupils think a performance of a 10 bounce routine has to include lots of difficult skills.

There is judgement on difficulty through tariffs, however the performance is also linked to maintenance of height / execution with good technique. Often it is better to go simple with good execution, rather than difficult and have no control.

Teacher tip

You may want mini whiteboards for pupils to plan and amend their voluntary routine. If available, peer feedback can be enhanced by pupils recording the 10 bounce routine usingĀ online tariff calculators. The use of cameras would be useful to record and offer self and peer feedback.
