Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: keep at least one buttock in contact with the floor while striking the ball.
  2. Move: serve from the back right corner and rotate clockwise when service is won.
  3. Think: awareness of 3 touches before the ball is returned over the net but the same player can't hit it twice in a row.
  4. Feel: appreciate the adapted version of playing in a seated position.
  5. Connect: supporting each other towards a common goal.

  • Support play - the actions of players who are not directly involved with the ball but are strategically positioned to assist teammates

  • Rally - the continuous sequence of play from a serve until a point is score of the ball goes out of play

  • Rotation - the clockwise movement of players around the court and through the serving position after a side out

Common misconception

Sitting volleyball is only for people with disabilities.

Sitting volleyball is a Paralympic sport, however it is an inclusive and adapted sport that anyone can play regardless of ability. Players have to move quickly around the court using their upper bodies frequently in a seated position.
