Darts
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can throw a dart with control and adjust my technique based on feedback to improve accuracy.
Key learning points
- Move: adopting a balanced stance with the same throwing arm and leg forward will improve the accuracy of shots.
- Think: ensuring others are clear of your target reduces the risk of harm.
- Feel: focusing on progress, not the outcome, will help us manage frustration and remain calm.
- Connect: taking turns fairly will allow us to work respectfully as part of a team.
Keywords
Stance - the stable body position you need to take before throwing a dart
Accuracy - hitting as close as possible to your intended target
Feedback - information about our performance that helps us understand what we did well and what we can improve
Common misconception
You need a strong throw to be good at darts.
Darts is more about control and accuracy than power. A smooth, balanced stance and consistent release are more important.
Teacher tip
If you do not have darts this lesson can be adapted to another target game such as bowls/boccia or altered so that beanbags or balls are thrown to a scoring area. Creating their own target areas can add a balance between personal challenge and team unison.
