Develop trust within an OAA environment
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can build trust in relationships so that others have confidence in me during team challenges.
Key learning points
- Move: ensuring careful and controlled movements leads to success and prevents accidents.
- Think: following specific instructions about what to do enables the activity to remain safe and free from hazards.
- Feel: managing the stress of having no vision is reduced by having trust in your teammates.
- Connect: respect and clear communication are essential to building trust.
Keywords
Communication - how we share information, ideas or feelings through speaking, listening and body language
Resilience - the ability to keep working towards a solution despite difficulties or setbacks
Safe practice - following rules and using correct technique to prevent injury and keep everyone safe
Common misconception
It is unsafe to be blindfolded.
While there is an increased risk in getting injured, listening carefully to friends, trusting their guidance and being sensible will all help to reduce the risk level.
Teacher tip
Collect used plastic water bottles in the run up to this lesson if possible. Ideally use balls for the visually impaired in this lesson. If using the bottles with lids off, make sure the surface is not slippery and is outside (grass/astroturf).
