      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can explain why families are important.

      Key learning points

      1. Families help keep us safe and healthy.
      2. Home is where we should feel safe and loved.
      3. Families show love by spending time together and caring for us.
      4. Even when families change, their love and support remain.

      Keywords

      • Care - to be kind to someone

      • Safe - feeling protected and not in danger

      • Healthy - when something is healthy it means it is good for us, our minds and bodies

      • Loved - feeling special and cared for

      Common misconception

      Families never change.

Change is inevitable and often leads to us needing extra support. Change is normal and can be both a good thing and a challenging thing.

      Teacher tip

Lessons about families feeling safe or unsafe could trigger a safeguarding disclosure. Ensure that you direct pupils to people they can talk to if they are worried about something. Try and make time after the lesson so pupils are able to seek support if they need it.
