Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Boundaries might be physical, emotional, financial or online.
  2. We should know what our own personal boundaries are.
  3. Our boundaries are only about things that happen to us.
  4. Our boundaries should not be used to control other people, when their actions are not directly affecting us.

Keywords

  • Boundary - an imaginary line separating what we will and won't allow

  • Physical - relating to your body

  • Emotional - relating to your feelings and thoughts

  • Personal - in this context, something to do with ourselves

  • Affect - when something has an influence on someone or something

Common misconception

Everyone else should know my boundaries without me having to tell them.

It is important to let other people know what we are and are not comfortable with. We have a responsibility to state our boundaries and other people have a responsibility to respect ours.
