      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can describe what hallucinogens are and can explain their risks and effects on the body.

      Key learning points

      1. Hallucinogens are drugs change the way someone's senses perceive the world.
      2. Hallucinogens have risks, including legal, physical and psychological.
      3. Most hallucinogens are Class A drugs, with very serious consequences for possession and supply.
      4. There are different ways to say no to others.
      5. There are different ways to get help and support people.

      Keywords

      • Hallucinogen - a type of drug that can change the way people see, hear, taste, smell, think or feel

      • Distort - to change or twist something away from its normal or true form

      • Hallucination - a false experience involving sight, sound, touch, taste and/or smell that seems to be real

      • Flashback - in this context, when someone re-experiences the effect of the drug after the effect has worn off

      Common misconception

Psilocybin (magic mushrooms) are safe because they are natural.

Psilocybin (magic mushrooms) look very similar to mushrooms that can kill. No one can predict exactly how each individual will react to a drug so these pose as much risk as others.
