This unit equips them with practical knowledge to prevent illness, treat minor ailments independently, and understand when professional help is needed. Positioned early in Year 7, it establishes healthy habits and personal responsibility for wellbeing that will support them throughout adolescence and into adulthood.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils should understand from Key Stage 2 basic hygiene practices such as handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and that keeping clean helps prevent illness and infection.
- Pupils should know that there are different types of illnesses and that some require rest at home whilst others need medical attention from a doctor or healthcare professional.
- Pupils should be familiar with basic dental care from primary school, including brushing teeth regularly, and understand that dentists help maintain healthy teeth and gums.
