Lesson details
Key learning points
- Unintended pregnancies can be managed through various options such as parenting, adoption and abortion.
- It is the pregnant woman's choice about what she does with her pregnancy.
- Different support systems are available for each option, including medical, emotional and legal support.
Keywords
Unintended pregnancy - a pregnancy that was not planned or intended at the time of conception
Abortion - the termination of a pregnancy by removal or expulsion of an embryo or foetus
Adoption - when someone legally becomes the parent of a child who isn't biologically theirs, creating a new family bond with all the same rights and responsibilities as birth parents
Common misconception
An abortion is the only way to deal with an unintended prgnancy.
Abortion is one option, but not the only one. People can also consider adoption or parenting, with support available for each choice. Talking to a trusted adult or medical professional can help in making the right decision.
